St. Vincent Meals on Wheels is the largest privately funded Meals on Wheels program in the country.
Under the direction of founder Sister Alice Marie Quinn, D.C., St. Vincent Meals on Wheels has been preparing and delivering daily hot meals and warm greetings to shut-in seniors and other frail homebound people since 1977.
The program began when then-hospital dietitian Sister Alice Marie made a pot of stew for 83 seniors at a local church hall. That single selfless act led to the St. Vincent Senior Citizen Nutrition Program-which after serving 100 meal clients each day-expanded into St. Vincent Meals on Wheels.
Today we serve more than 2,000 clients a day across Los Angeles-from Skid Row to West Hollywood, the Hollywood Hills to South L.A.
And our services extend far beyond nutritious meals. Our staff and volunteers check on clients to make sure they're OK and provide them with help if they're not. Our daily home visits ease our clients' loneliness and isolation. Personal touches such as birthday cakes and small holiday gifts remind clients how special and cared for they are.
